Ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses received many human and animal forms. For example Thoth could be depicted as a baboon, an ibis or a man with the head of an ibis. Crowns and head decorations
The art of ancient Egypt created incredible scale of crowns and head decorations. These head decorations were the background for gods identification (except the hieroglyfic signs). Typical divine head decorations are feathers, horns, lunar and solar discs, different birds, insects and other animals, stars, palmy leaves, vessels, lotus flower, shield with two crossed arrows and others.
The king could be depicted with one of sever different crowns, but more frequently he was depicted with a linen headcloth (nemes). Different deities could be depicted with royal head decoration - for example Osiris prided himself with the crown atef.
